Life in Edinburgh

Hello,

today I would like to show you how Edinburgh looks lie and some basic information about the city itself.

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and it is Scotland´s second most populous city (the first one is Glasgow). It has approximately half a million inhabitants. The city is not that large so that it is convenient for walking, however, I was disappointed by cycling conditions. I planned to buy a bike and bike throughout the city as I am used to from Sweden but I found it quite tricky because there are not sufficient cycling paths and they do not seem to be that safe as mostly they are part of the road and moreover cycling on the left side… I simply did not feel it is a good idea to ride a bike in Edinburgh. Therefore I use double-decker buses and enjoy something new, especially the view you have from above 😀 In case, you are interested how public transport works here, you can visit these websites, where you find plenty of information. The public transport here is mostly dependent on the buses since there is no underground. Buses have way too many stops and in the beginning, it may be really confusing added to that mostly you cannot see upcoming stops on the bus, so that I often use Google maps to find my location and search for the place where I want to go and then just guess which stop is the most suitable to get off.

As you can see from the pictures, Edinburgh has a lot of historical buildings and brick houses are undoubtedly a part of the city. I like the atmosphere of the city which is still buzzing, especially at night, and usually, you can hear people playing bagpipes so that the real Scottish experience is guaranteed.

There are things, which I always have to compare to Sweden and some of those are either better or worse here, however, I would like to present that in another article.

Have a nice day, Denisa
