Introduction to… me!

Well, I’m both challenged and excited.

My excitement is that I get to write regularly again, something I have missed dearly, and to share my journey with you.

My challenge is to capture the rich experience that awaits me on this course — not just academic experience, but social and emotional — and translate this through words and images.

But first things first, and without further a due, i think introductions are in order.

My name is Sebastian, but I’ve been called many nicknames under the sun: Seb, Sebbe, Sebban, Sebbi, Sebbzor, Seabass, Bob, Harry Potter, Spiderman, “The Man. The Myth. The Legend.”

I am in many ways a practical optimist, an entertainer, and a solid friend.

My current mission is to help the next generation live even better lives than we have. How I strive for this will evolve with time, and certainly with this course!

I am interested in pretty much everything that has to do with life — life on this planet, it’s evolution, and the lives of people, in history and here and now — and the culmination is my endless strive to live life fully.

Living life fully means different things to different people. To me, it is all about experiencing, developing and enjoying as much as possible, magnifying this through strong and loving relationships, and from it all give my deepest gifts back to my world.

Living fully is hard work, which is why most people don’t do it.

Briefly about my background:

Half-Swedish half-Cuban, I don’t look like either. I’ve been mistaken as French. I guess that could be forgiven.

I was raised here in Uppsala, Sweden, where I’m doing this masters program in Environmental Communication. After moving to the UK for four years, where I did my undergraduate degree in Geology and Biology, and making a 180° turn to work as a personal trainer, I returned in January.

I was tired of the cold winters of the UK… so yes, I moved to Sweden!…

Trust me, it makes perfect sense. You will see when winter comes.

So my academic background is in biology, evolution and environmental science. My nerdy passion is psychology and anthropology. My… less nerdy other passion is movement. You’ll notice I don’t sit around much. Life is too rich and beckoning to be sitting around.

To this masters program in Environmental Communication, which I will introduce in the next post, I hope to bring this integrative perspective and inspire action as much as discussion.
