När jag tänker efter på alla år som jag varit involverad i internationaliseringsarbetet på fakulteten är det lätt att undra över vad som egentligen har gjorts. Kunde jag med handen på hjärtat gjort mer eller kommer jag att kunna göra så mycket mer? Det skulle ju kunna kännas en aning oinspirerande minst sagt, om svaret på den frågan är nej…
Men som tur är fallet inte så! Fakulteten är nämligen involverad i tidernas satsning med bäring på internationella frågor! IUFRO, en av de mest intressanta organisationerna för skogsforskare som vill lära känna sina kollegor i resten av världen, håller just nu på att utreda sin egen framtid och vilka frågor som kommer att dominera forskningen framgent. Tack vare en gedigen satsning från fakulteten kommer vi nu att vara med aktivt i detta arbete. Vi kan anta att SLU kommer att synas en del tack vare detta engagemang samtidigt som arbetet med IUFRO kommer att utgöra en del av vår egen omvärldsanalys. Som om detta inte vore nog har SLU tillsammans med fakulteten bestämt att ansöka om att arrangera nästa IUFRO World Congress. Både att ansöka i sig är en mycket intressant satsning samtidigt som en beviljad sådan givetvis kommer att innebära mycket och spännande arbete och utan tvekan placerar både SLU och skogssverige på världskartan.
Dessutom har vi en fortsatt satsning på Efinord, värdskapet för både SNS (Samnordisk skogsforskning) och numera även jordbrukets motsvarighet (NKJ) samlokaliserat med den förra. Fakulteten är både direkt och indirekt involverade i nationella skogsprogrammets internationella delar. Och, som tidigare bloggats, väntar vi i internationella kommittén med spänning på en drös intressanta ansökningar till både fonder och fakultetens positioneringsmedel. Så nej saker och ting är allt annat än oinspirerande!
Som grädde på moset har vi även en ansökan inne om en fortsättning på vad som benämnts Susfor, i en något internationaliserad form, i samarbete med aktörer i flera av våra nordiska länder. Susfor är spännande eftersom grundtanken med denna Vinnova-finansierade påverkansplattform är att skapa bättre förutsättningar för våra forskare att kunna söka och även erhålla medel från Horizon 2020.
Så nej livet är snarare väldigt inspirerande och spännande och IUFRO är alltså inte svaret på allt men en delikat del av det hela!
Is IUFRO the answer to everything?

When one is thinking of all the years of engagement in the internationalization work at the faculty it is not far-fetched to wonder about what has really been done or achieved, and if being fully honest one could have done more or will actually be able to achieve so much more? It would not be an understatement to say that it would feel somewhat uninspiring , if the answer to that would be no…
But as one might suspect this is not the case! The Faculty is involved in a significant venture with bearing on international issues. IUFRO, which is one of the more interesting organizations for forest researchers who want to get to know their colleagues in the rest of the world (in principle), is currently investigating their own future and the issues that will dominate the research in the future. Thanks to a solid effort from the faculty, we will now be active and visible in this work. One may actually assume that SLU will become more visible partly thanks to this commitment while working with IUFRO will also form part of our own analysis of the surrounding world. As if this were not enough, SLU in conjunction with the Faculty has decided to pursue an application for arranging the next IUFRO world congress. Both the application procedure in itself is a very interesting initiative while naturally a granted such will mean much and exciting work and no doubt puts both SLU and Swedish forestry sector on the world map.
In addition to the above mentioned, we also have a continued focus on and engagement in the Efinord, the hosting of both SNS (Nordic forest research) and now also the agricultural counterpart (NKJ) co-located with the last, and are both directly and indirectly involved in the Swedish national forest program’s international parts. And, as formerly blogged we are waiting in the International Committee with excitement on a whole range of interesting applications to both funds and the Faculty’s positioning support. So no, things are anything but uninspiring!
To top it off, we now also have an application in the continuation of what has been termed Susfor, in a slightly internationalized form, in co-operation with collaborators in several of our Nordic countries. Susfor is exciting because the basic idea of this Vinnova-funded advocacy platform is to create better conditions for our scientists to be able to search and also receive funds from Horizon 2020.
So again, life is rather very inspiring and exciting and IUFRO is not the answer to everything but a delicate part of the whole thing!
